Question on Mini-Camp Drills
By: Coach K
My coaches and I just completed a 2-day mini camp for our youth football team. It was our first and it turned out really well. We have had nothing but positive feedback from both parents and players. We aimed at completing 3 goals at our camp. 1. Getting football on the minds of players and parents. 2. Q & A with new prospective players and parents. 3. Getting glimps of returning and new players. At our camp we really focused on the BASICS! Our camp ran for 5 hours on both days. *We started out with regular season team warm up drills (so that new players could get a taste of what we normally do). *Then we ran some 40's, kareokes, high knees, etc. (to check out player's speed and agility). *We divided the coaches up into 3 separate stations (1. RB/DB... 2. OL/DL... 3. WR/TE/LB) and ran each station for 45 mins to an hour. *After each session, we rotated the players to the other stations (we did this so that every player would get to every station at least twice during the camp). Our camp included 5-10 minute breaks between each session along with a 30 minute lunch/snack break. Feel free to tweek this schedule anyway you like i.e. no lunch/break, 4-5 stations, different position emphasis, etc. We even charged a $10 (extremely cheap for any type of camp) fee which covered lunch/snacks and put a little extra money in our team account. Overall this was a great experience for our program. We are already making arrangements for next seasons camp. Hope this is helpful information.
