GIRLS IN FOOTBALL?

By: coachc

Girls do have a place in football but that place needs to be created as it has in other sports & programs. Some examples are Girls & Boys Basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, hockey, softball, soccer, tennis, scouts, choirs plus many more that could be mentioned. Many of these programs were created to allow both boys and girls the opportunity to participate in a specific interest.

In youth football programs, someone decides to add a certain age or weight group and a team is created. For example: A program wants to add a 5-7 year old team so these kids can play football instead of playing 5-7 soccer.
Someone heads up the program and begins to field teams at this level. Lets say some one wants to start a flag program with helmets & shoulder pads, and players must be born between January and April, must be at least 14 years of age, have eyes that are brown and have at least one A on there report card from the sixth grade. If someone can succeed in creating this program, my hat is off to them. This leads me to my point.

If parents or girls want to play football so bad, START A PROGRAM THAT GIRLS CAN PLAY IN! This would be the best thing that could happen in the best interest of the girls who want to play, and the best interests of the boy's game of football. Any parent who would want their daughter out on the playing field with boys do not understand the game nor what it takes to practice. They might as well take their daughter outback and invite dozens of boys over every weekend and let them roll around, grapple, knock down, hit, pulldown, lay on top of..etc. each other for a couple of hours. This is not something that should create pride in a parent who wants to raise a daughter successfully. Maybe I"m to old fashioned but football can help make a man out of a boy, but definately won't make a woman out of a girl!
