Girls....

how many of you have, or have had girls on your team??....in the 7 yrs ive coached, theres only been 2 in the league...one last year, and one this...both with the same team, as luck would have it...the first, joyce, was the same avg size and speed as the boys...good athlete...only the long hair sticking out of her helmet gave her away...her coach started her on defense...good tackler...she spotted at wing back on offense...did ok, not great speed...but, of course, the boys had trouble tackling her...they didnt really want to ...they werent sure how to handle the situation...so, she, and her coach to advantage of it....alot the kids knew her...she played with them at the playgrounds and was a good athlete...she ran a sweep, and our outside lb ran up and nailed her, she fumbled, and he picked it up and ran for a td...they started going out...true story...she said he was the only boy that treated her like just another football player, and the only one that hit as hard as she did...the girl this year, is only a 5th grader, and real shy and dont play alot...their team handles it fine...i handle it by not handling it....another player, make the play....
i respect them for going out....takes guts....i have a 22yr. old girl that played sports all her life, and still does, and i have a 2yr. old girl that looks like shes gonna be following in her big sisters footsteps...as a dad, im over protective...but, as a coach...having girls play football dont faze me....how about you?
