4-4 DEFENCE

thanks coach....i have that book, and there seems to be alot of good things there...
you seemed very organized, as does your league......hell, wed never think of pulling any linemen...i remember the disaster i had trying to put splits in the line, like i did playing semi pro, but in our league, forget it...its strictly a gap league...i learned to line my defense up in a gaps...if a lineman pulled, thered be 3 kids in the backfield by the time the qb turned around.....we re lucky we can get them to remember snap counts, and stances...and we work on those every day...the whole team....we use the kiss method..keep it simple stupid....run block straight ahead...or pass block...we end every pass play with the word pass, so the line knows its a pass....pancakes are something they eat alot of.....we use the nutcracker drills, and all that, but theres only two of us coaces per team, and practices are only an hour and a half long...one on one teaching is done quickly....we dont have the time, or equipment for alot of the drills we had playing high school, and wherever....a couple of bags is all....no remedial anything...we just work on the same things everyday, with some twists to keep it as fresh as possible...no playbooks, no film work, none of that...just repetition....if the kids think up a formation or play that sounds reasonable..i let them run it in practice....and in a game, if we re ahead in the 4th qtr...thats about all the incentive i can give..the rest is up o them...its all the kids....either you ve got a group that wants to go the extra mile, or you dont...im afraid i push them too hard...its easy to forget they are only 10 yrs old....but, im an intense person, and want them to be on the field...all i ask of them is 100pct...i dont expect them to be perfect, but they better be ready to work...and the games will be fun.....im enjoying watching the kids that played for us that are now playing for the high school in the playoffs...its cool to watch them grow up as young men, and players....thanks again
