How to deal with the big egoed coach who's 1-4?
By: Coach Reyes
I am the Defensive coach for a youth football team in San Luis Obispo, CA (Bantams 8-10yrs) The coach fits the stereotypical coach who's every mothers nightmare. His son is on the team and of course his son is automatically the QB There are 2 kids that could easily beat him out. During practices he yells eratically at our boys especially his son who doesn't do anything his father says but respects me maybe because I don't yell at him. One practice he violentely grabbed his son by his facemask and threw him down I am feeling kinda guilty for not saying something. Is it my place what do you think? I really think our dismal season is due to the confusion he causes... It's unfortunate because of the fact that he doesn't listen to his other coaches. How would you deal with a man like this? I do believe that football should be taught with aggressiveness in mind but my feeling is why yell when you don't have to. One more thing, the kids ask me every day If he's coming to practice because they see right through him. We haven't scored but 32 points in 5 games and all 32 were in one game my defense is at an average of allowing 11 pts per game? Please give me your Opinions on how to deal with this situation.
