As you say, the number of variables is extreme, and we'll wait a long time for any hard and fast scientific "proof" on this. But when Fleisig et al conclude that their data "support the concept that these [long-distance throws on flat ground] are good training drills for pitchers," I think that's significant.

I'm not sure where you'd have us look for authorities on this topic. If the elite college programs and pro teams don't know how to train pitchers, who does? Who do you recognize as expert?
