Mandatory Slide Rule

By: Jeff Taylor

Jon, we've run into the same problem in our league. The entire problem is in the interpretation as to the umpire saying when sliding is needed. This is also something we're looking into with our league for nest year. I'm on our board and am IN FAVOR of the mandatory slide into home. In all-stars, we had our 9/10 slide all the time REGARDLESS. We found that the players actually became better at sliding on the basepaths and thus more agressive base runners. Also, certainly is the safety issue. My son is a catcher and I would rather see more sliding as opposed to a collision. JT
