Mandatory Slide Rule

Jerry, I understand how ticked you must have been by having an umpire that didn't understand what obstruction is. The only problem is that obstruction is a "judgement" call and as such is not protestable. The fact that the ump didn't understand or properly make the right call is just life. As long as humans are involved mistakes will be made. I don't know how long you have been coaching but one thing I have learned is that when I get screwed by a bad call, later in a different game I will get one that goes my way. Everything seems to even out over time. In all my years coaching I have met some pretty bad umps (worked with a few in the 51/2 years I umped). But I have also met a lot of coaches that didn't know the rules and were sure some ump was against them, when in fact good ones couldn't care less who wins.
