14-Player Batting Order

By: Carroll L Wood (Woody)

The most prevalent reason most managers in St Louis use the bat the roster method is: they no longer have to manage... all kids play so he doesn't have to get ripped by an unhappy parent.

What also happens is this: if you run tourneys with travel teams they will not participate in bat the roster formats. When I say they I mean the majority. If your league adopts bat the roster and you take your team into tourneys that bat nine play nine... the parents for your sub players are going to be unhappy usually to the point of disrupting the team. It gets comfortable for the managers, but it is not baseball in the eyes of the masses of teams across the country. In my tourneys in the 9,10, & 11's I give each team the option of batting the roster - they must declare their intent at ground rules ... this has worked well for me, however they will not get that choice in the World Series.
