Tournament Team Coach Selection

By: Neill Riddell

I agree with you Steve. The best coach in my son's age group (not me!) always had a good house team but did not always win the division. That is because he spent a fair amount of his efforts developing the whole team rather than just his stars. But at the more competitive levels (tournament and travel) he is head and shoulder above eveyone else, and gets more out of those teams than anyone in our association could.

In our association, the travel team managers are picked by the Travel GM (that's me, and no I'm not going to pick myself - although I have the authority to do so) and tournament team managers are selected by the GMs for the respective divisions. It's an odd sytem, but it works OK for us. Trust is a must.
