Perceived ability vs age vs reality?

"At 9/10 it's not a HUGE thing to 'fix' a kid. But by the time he's 12/13, it's going to be pretty hard to re teach the kid how to throw a ball. not to mention the parents....they are going to think a Coach is crazy, since the kid has thrown that way the whole time....." I saw that this year after our coaches quit on the team. At mid-season when I offered to step up and help out we were starting with 11/12 kids and throwing the ball. I had one kid on the team besides my son who actually knew how to hold a baseball for throwing. We did throwing drills each practice from then on out. The kids didnt like it because they thought they already knew how to throw. Some of them got better some didnt try as they were already done in their minds for the season. With our LL adopting the pitch count rule we worked to develop pitchers as a league. But this is going to take a few seasons to accomplish. With the younger kids it seems easier to me to develop players. the young kids (8/9/10) want to learn and listen pretty good. there are exceptions, there always are. But for the most part they really want direction and to learn. Don't even get me started on batting.
