9yr old sick of outfield

I believe that all kids should learn the positions.. but I also belive that they need to show the coach and the team that they have learned it before going into a game and playing it. No kid wants to be the kid that screws up. I also believe that th coach needs to be working with the bottom 4 kids in order to get them playing at a level with the other kids on the team. But mom and dad cannot drive the team.. the coach has to do that.

In our minors division (8-11) most kids do move around some from position to position. but as they move to majors (10-12) they are expected to have the fundamentals down. A 12yr old walking in to play ball for the first time isnt going to unseat a kid who has been playing ball since he was 5 or 6 yrs old. Not normally anyway. but the mom and dad of that kid sure think so.
case in point... we had a game where my son was pitching and this new kid was on 1st. A line shot came right back to my son, which he caught for an out. he immediately turned and threw to first to double off the runner. Unfortunately the new kid at 1st had no idea that this could happen. My son drilled him right inthe chest. ball hits ground ...kid is hurt. oh well. it was a real quick play but the kid had no idea... still mom and dad think that their kid should be there at 1st. In the end he wwoulnd up in LF and learned to play that position fairly well.
what gets me is how parents can decide at 12yrs that its now time to start their kid in an organized sport.. he is so far behind most other kids his age at that point....
Granted the kid had some ability but he is starting at a disadvantage.
