Little League/How to Fix

By: Cam

There have been some interesting ideas set forth here. One thing that is apparent is how different LL programs are. We then must be talking about changing things that are not the same.
Down here in our Florida city, there are 3 LL leagues. The are all pretty much the same until 9 and up. Here they all are a bit different in age groupings and rules.
Up until recently, the travel teams all stopped during LL. Now most are going to yer round.
In addition, the charter schools have baseball in the middle schools. While 12 year olds will rarely play, there is some pressure to be out there (60/90 play)to show your interest and talent for next year.
The result is that kids have to make up there mind between these and this has definitely hurt LL at the 12 year old level.
The quality of ball in our majors division was as good as travel in my opinion. Now with more of the better kids placed in the uncomfortable position of making choices, those that elected Little League, who are good, who may for other reasons not play travel, or go to a charter school, get cheated a bit from what they expected would be participating on a good team.
