Starting an AAU/USSSA team

Well, I don't run our team but have coached with John for 3 years now on our travel team. Input I can give is this...

1. First and foremost get your staff together and give them your SOP manual. You may want to delegate a financial person, a team parent, and any other positions you feel may need delegating.

2. Obtain sponsors - you say this should be no problem. Create your website in this process so you can get your sponsors name "out" thru some kind of vehicle. Make sure they have your schedule and keep them posted as to your status.

3. Secure practice fields and create the schedule.

4. Parents meeting giving them your SOP in a nutshell and your rules & regs and your by-laws, hey you asked.

5. Create, probably should be done in first step, your financials statement...Costs of insurance, assocition fees???, use of practice field costs, potential tourney fees, equipment, uniforms (balls, bags, etc.)

I think with your obvious knowledge and these few things your on your way. And if you haven't already done so, theres tons out there but go and get the Coaches Baseball Bible. Its the nuts and bolts of running a team. It's geared towards HS age kids but if you don't get something out of it and if doesn't help you on your journey I will eat my hat...
