White Baseball Spikes and Cleats

Now, now Split, I wasn't saying that what he was doing was wrong. Remember, I asked why.

If you need to resort to spikes that stand out from everyone else's to get 10 YO kids to want to play baseball together, IMO, you haven't exhausted enough of the other opportunities.

Using a not "normal" baseball team name that's different like Warriors, Cobras or Bloody Reds could do the same thing. Personally, I like seeing the kids have their nicknames on the shirts. There's nothing like the fans cheering for "Cannon", "Rabbit", "Nails" or some other name like that rather than Billy or Johnny.

I also happen to like to see teams not even come out of the dugout for warm ups unless they all come out together and get in nice straight lines. I like to see kids run whenever that cross the white lines too. I seen a few team who do "chants" during their stretching and warm ups that looks pretty good too.

What my boy's LL coach did was buy each player his own helmet. Then after each game, he handed out stickers such as you see on football helmet at Ohio State or Michigan. Every body got at least one every game and the really noteworthy thing got an extra 1 or 2. My son played 4 years at the Majors level and when he grew out of his helmet, I had to get the new one and make sure I got him the exact number of stickers to put on it. That helmet is still on his wall to this day, and I don't doubt he still remember how many stickers are on it! But I doubt if his white shoes would ever have been put there.

The whole purpose of "Esprit de Corps" is instill a team "awareness" and pride. You can do it with white shoes, but you can do it with just white shoelaces too, What I was trying to say is, it seemed silly to pick something that is so subject to change as the shoe size for a 10YO.

This is really the classic disagreement in how much the wearin' o' the uniform really means. I tend to put much more stock in things of substance like hustle or superior skill than how a player looks. As usual, we are only a teeny bit apart, but it seems like much more.
