9 Year Old Hitting Help
By: Chet
Frank: My son is also 9 and has had the same problems. I used to think it was weather related because most of his complaints were in the cool spring months (We live in Ohio). However, he is playing with a tournament team now and has not had many problems with hand sting at all. I'm sure that the weather has had some effect, but he is now learning to rotate his hips and getting more of the barrel of the bat on the ball and we have not had many "stinging hands" complaints. He has always been a good contact hitter, but lately he is hitting the ball with power (due to good hip rotation). Another thing I noticed is that I purchased an Easton Reflex Carbon Core bat (not cheap). The ball really jumps off the bat as compared with last years Easton model which we also had. Both bats were 29 inch, 19 ounce models. I know they also have an Anti-sting model, so you may want to try it. Just stay with it, my son more or less learned that once in a while he will get a "hand full of bees", but as he matures, he has learned to get right back in there. Hope this has helped.
