Playing on 2 teams???

The situation you mention (club soccer and baseball) is one that I am now facing with my 8 year old son.

I'm hoping it can be largely solved by mentioning prior to the baseball player draft that my son will be playing soccer on certain days and if baseball practices are scheduled then well... please don't pick my son for your team.

Formerly a kid could play baseball, basketball and football and excel at all because they each had their season and the seasons for the most part did not overlap. But today I think the situation is different.

Soccer goes all year round, baseball (at least here in Southern Ca) pretty much goes all year round as well.

The problem I am facing is that if you would like to see you child have an adequate opportunity to excel in soccer (and club soccer is just about the only way that can be accomplished) as well as giving baseball a decent chance then it seems to me the kid just about has to play both. And at times there will be conflicts and a loss of some playing time I think is an adequate response by the coach. Later the child can choose if he would like to play only one sport. But unless he plays club soccer now he can pretty much rule out playing it at the higher (e.g. high school) level.

I'd appreciate others comments on this.
