Goal Setting

DRP,

Its a great age to start goal setting. Here is what I have done in the past.

Ask each teamate to write down the three areas of their game they would like to improve on the most.I.E.Hitting, baserunning, and pitching. Then discuss with them the skills they need in order to improve that area.I.E.For Hitting maybe the player needs to improve his mechanics or maybe he needs to work on recognizing the strike zone better.Whatever the skill make it specific, and spell out what needs to be done in order to make improvements. This will take a great deal of time if you do it with each player but it will be well worth the time if you follow through.
Keep the list short, attainable and specific for each player. You can do the same thing with team goals. You spell out the team goals.I.E. Every player is in the ready position when the pitcher starts his windup. OR Every player knows his backip position on all types of plays and moves quickly to do so on contact with the ball.Keep the list short and write them down.Periodically review them and chck your progress. If you are reaching the goals let the team know and then make new ones, if not review what steps you are taking to make them happen and make the changes needed.
