Switch hitting

Switch Hitting vs RH.

- Not many 'sucessful' SH in the bigs. e.g. Was Mickey Mantle a sucessful hitter
on the left side ? Tbd ?

e.g. Was Eddie Murray a sucessful hitter
on the left side ? Yes

Advantages of SH:
1. Breaking pitch coming
into you (rather than at your head) for
those opposite handed pitcher / hitter.

2. A plus for your talent

Disadvantage of SH:
1. Not many LHP, thus the SH will bat LH 85% of time.

2. RHH has a different swing mechanics than
the LHH for the same person (except for Murray) & a few others.

3. Need to work three times as hard at it.
One side will dominate and be sucessful.
(usually the right), the the LHH will
be successful.

Cure: LHH learn to hit the LHP
breaking pitch.

cheers

ps. There has not been many 'sucessful'
ampidextrous pitchers in all of baseball history.
