Dear Jeff, Advice for you & your Son Learning to throw

By: Bear

Dear Jeff,

Simple advice for you & your son.
Learn how to pitch from 60'6". Period.

And since you implied your son at 14,
it's my understanding that there exist
onlyh a few places left in the country
not throwing regulation.

And when I suggest learning how to pitch, yes, the good news will be it will
literally be starting over.

Some thoughts for what he will might find with the transition:

1) His 83 mph fastball at 54' is not gas
at 60' 6".

2) His approx 73 mph slide ball on the
black at 54' is a catchers nightmare
at 60' 6"

3) His approx 68 mph curve ball at 54'
doesn't reach the plate at 60' 6".

4) His # of strikes to ball ratio @ 54'
turns upside down at 60'6.

5) His 1.5 sec delivery time to plate
is now 1.75 sec.

6) With his pitching at regs, the grounders
will be hit harder, and the defense
behind him will have bigger holes
in it than before.

7) Several more catchers will want to catch

8) His ability to field his position will improve thru practice.

9) His ability to cover 1b when the baseball is hit to the right side will take longer.

10) His ability to find another place to play will be challenging at first

11) Learning new arm slots, release angles,
and possibly downhill weight transfer will
be required.

12) Have more fun and staying focus is tested.

cheers
Bear

ps. Most coaches would change places with
you in a heart beat. Good luck. Keep us
informed.
