Fun Practice Endings

Good idea--and great incentive. Here are some of the things I've done.

1. Home run derby. Coach pitches from 2B grass and players hit from the back dirt off the mound. 10 outs (any swing that's not yard is an out). Most HR wins.

2. Home run trot. Have the kids "crank" a pretend majestic shot, and give their best HR gaze and trot.

3. Ground ball eliminator. Players in single line. Take turns at the grounders. 3 boots and you're out of the line. Of course, as the game gets close, the coaches hit harder balls to field.

4. Timed base running (a favorite for conditioning). See how fast they can run the bases. Home-to-first, home-to-2nd, first-to-3rd, and inside-the-park. Kids love it, and it wears them out.
