Defensive Positioning

I think it depends on the size field. On the 90' bases, you'd like to have 3B cut on throw home from LF, 1B cut on throws from CF and RF (P back-up on both). On the L.L. field, I think you're definitely looking at the pitcher cutting the throws (it's tough for the 1st/3B to get into a good cut position on the hard hit ball), with 1B as back-up.

On a ball to the fence, I like the "double cut," meaning if the middle I.F. sees "butt and elbows flying" after the ball, then both line up for the cut. Now, both won't handle the ball, but, for example, on a hit to RF, the 2B goes out and SS trails, almost like a back-up in case the throw is off to the 2B. In this case, a double is almost a given, and you're trying to prevent a 3-bagger, and the 1B-man can trail the runner going to 2nd. JT
