Dead Horses and Cans of Worms--and Bats

Glad you jumped in--I had hoped you would from reading your previous posts on the bats. You are correct in the sampling of NCAA--our school participates. My point for that is that the results have been consistent over the years. Also, serious injuries are reported in terms of lost time, and fatalities are definitely reported. The full data is just not reported in the on-line version. For this issue, I wanted to play "devils advocate" and put a different "spin" on things, in light of my direct involvement in helping our coach in collecting data for our chancellor's vote. (Our coach only wants to play consistent with the NCAA rules and not be handicapped by playing with less). I certainly agree that the potential danger is a real, and that something needs to be done to prevent a needless injury from ocurring. The NCAA, the conferences (and their no-clue-about-baseball chancellors) are wrong in citing injuries that the data says don't exist.

Craig, if I'm not mistaken, a league in your area was going to change to wood, or eliminate the atomic bats. Which route did they take, and how did it go, both in regular season and in post-season all-stars. JT
