Sports Tech -Increasing Bat Speed - Or Mo Jo Ma Red Fibers Need to Dance- Or Color My Fibers White

I didn't punch this acorn, Jack.

Batspeed is determined by many factors,
including, but not limited to, mechanics,
fiber distribution, nerve conduction
velocity, attachment sites, muscular
coordination, cross-sectional area, etc.
While it is true that people are born
with certain fiber ratios, these are
not consistent throughout the body;
one may be white-fiber dominant in one
area and red- fiber in another. Also,
there are several types of fast fiber,
and this varies as well.

The concept that fiber dominance can be
changed is controversial. But considerable
evidence exists that significant fiber
conversion from one type to another is
possible. Also, certain complex training
techniques can cause slow- twich to behave
much like fast. Properly periodized
strength programs can maximize the
potential of white (fast) fibers, by
controlling the damage to the easily
destroyed type IIB fibers. Over time,
the balance of contractile protein can
be forced to shift dramatically to the
fast fibers.
